About
I grew up in South Florida and with the infinite wisdom of an 18 year old decided it would be an adventure to move to the Northwest for university.
It was, and continues to be. I ended up staying out here longer than intended for school, graduating with a liberal arts degree and some experience in photography and media. I’ve always been interested in the arts, and picked up a camera while grappling with a total inability to draw or paint and a deep desire to do something expressive. That urge is what pushed me to keep pursuing photography while I was in school, ultimately working for two years in the student press and publishing work in a few student journals.
After that, my partner started a master’s degree in Ontario and we spent two years on the lakes. It was nice to spend a few years somewhere that actually gets hot in the summer, but ultimately we didn’t want to stay and have bounced back to BC.
When I’m not working I’m often working on road bikes (I have a ’91 Masi 3v that I really like but have never actually gotten around to rebuilding, and I have worked in a few different shops), thinking about cycling more, trying to make better coffee and drink less of it, or wishing that I could go back to working in a darkroom. All that after-hours access to a well equipped lab was very nice.
Film has been paying my bills for the last four years or so, but I very much enjoyed working with photography full time, and I continue to look for and take assisting or shooting jobs when I can.
